Improved Bangor take the points!
The last time these two sides faced each other back in October, Druids who were still counted as the underdogs fought hard to secure a 1-0 win which will be one to remember for Ancients fans, since then Bangor have yet to lose a league game and have shown signs of real improvement.
Bangor took advantage of Met losing and yesterday's postponement at TNS to close the gap on the Saints with a win against Cefn Druids.
The home side opened the game well. Ashley Ruane had the opening chance, latching onto a loose ball and breaking into the area but could only find the side netting. Druids then had a chance from a corner which was wasted, before the visitors went in front on 8’. Laurence Wilson played a long ball into Danny Gossett, who laid it off for Dean Rittenberg to slot home from the edge of the area.
Mudimu had Druids’ best effort of the half after the goal, firing a shot from 30 yards that Matthew Hall did well to turn behind for a corner. Eckersley then tested Hall again from the corner but committed a foul in the process.
Rittenberg then came close to doubling the lead, meeting a cross with an overhead kick that was blocked by his own teammate Luke Wall. Bangor were growing in confidence, and a lovely passing move opened up the Druids back line and gave Danny Gosset the chance to shoot, and Jones made a great save to deny the midfielder.
Druids then had a chance on the counter. Pritchard in the centre of the park fed Mudimu on the left, who crossed a teasing ball into the box which Connelly scrambled away with a clearing header. Arsan then fired wide, before Wall cut inside and curled a shot straight at Jones.
Into the second half, and Wall again tested Jones early on, before a Bangor counter also created danger for the home side. Mudimu then tested the Citizens’ back line with a teasing cross that wasn’t converted, before Shaw had a half chance on 62’ that he sent well wide.
Druids then began to enjoy a spell of pressure, but failed to make it tell, and were punished 7 minutes from time. Gosset intercepted a loose pass and broke into the Druids half, laid it off to Shaw who in turn squared it to Taylor-Fletcher. He then slotted in Luke Wall who dinked a lovely finish past Jones.
Shaw went close to adding a third, curling just wide after Rittenberg had done well to hold the ball up. The forward then had a chance himself, but couldn't connect with a cross that was just behind him.
